Coleman D. Ross

My business career has spanned 43 years.  For the past four years, I have served as an independent director of insurance and insurance-related companies.  During the first 34 years, I served insurers, banks, and other financial services clients for Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and was the national leader of the firm's insurance practice.  In between, I was chief financial officer for The Phoenix Companies and Trenwick Group, two New York Stock Exchange-listed insurance companies.  As a life-long learner, I have achieved several professional designations of relevance to my business career.  During my career, I also served on American Institute of CPAs committees and task forces dealing with technical accounting and auditing issues.  In addition, I have been active with the Boy Scouts of America and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I am currently active on boards of directors, in academia, in professional service, and in volunteer work.  I am a director for three insurance or insurance services companies  (Syncora Holdings, Pan-American Life Insurance, and NCCI Holdings) and the consulting advisor to the audit committee of another (CATIC Financial).  In May 2006, I completed a Master of Arts degree at Trinity College, majoring in economics, and am near completion of another master's degree.  I also serve on the AICPA's Property and Liability Insurance Companies Audit and Accounting Guide Task Force, having recently completing serving on the AICPA's Accounting Standards Executive Committee. I continue my work with the Boy Scouts at national, regional, and local council levels and recently joined UNC's Rams Club Board of Advisors after having completed a four-year term on UNC's Board of Visitors.

My goal is to remain active, challenged, and stimulated.  In today's environment, that involves bringing my financial expertise to boards of directors as well as consulting with financial services organizations.
